GEA Niro offers a broad range of solutions for drying of dyestuffs and pigments. Whether your feedstock is a solution, suspension or a paste, GEA Niro is able to offer the right solution.
Having a long track record within drying plants for dyestuff and pigments, we know what it takes to make dyestuff and pigments in solid form; both in terms of product requirements and requirements to the plant in terms of efficiency, safety and environmental compliance.
GEA Niro’s range of drying solutions includes spray drying, SWIRL FLUIDIZER™ and agglomeration/granulation units - all designed to meet the precise needs of each customer:
- Spray Dryers
- GEA Niro’s single-stage spray drying systems for production of fine to medium coarse powders. For a very uniform particle size, the spray dryer can be equipped with the GEA Niro NARROWSPAN™ atomizer wheel.
- Fluidized Spray Dryer FSD™
- GEA Niro’s original two-stage spray drying system for production of agglomerated powders and granulates. The FSD™ can be supplied with several types of exhaust air filters depending on the requirements to the product and the emissions.
- Integrated Filter Dryer IFD™
- GEA Niro’s two-stage drying system with integrated filters. For production of agglomerated powders and granulates. The integrated filters – placed inside the drying chamber – give less wear on the particles, and the compact design makes it a cost-efficient solution.
- SWIRL FLUIDIZER™
- GEA Niro’s drying system for turning filter cakes and the most viscous liquids into fine powders in a single step. For drying at gentle or high temperatures.
- FSD- and IFD GRANULATOR™
- The FSD- and IFD GRANULATORS™ extend flexibility of the FSD™ and IFD™ spray drying systems by making it possible to improve the essential product properties and visual appearance even further. The systems fit all new plants and they can also easily be retrofitted to the existing ones.
We are able to meet the strictest requirements to efficiency, safety and environmental compliance
Since many dyestuffs and pigments include hazardous ingredients, GEA Niro’s drying plants are designed to meet the strictest standards when it comes to explosion and emission control systems. GEA Niro’s vast experience within these areas is unequalled and also an invaluable aid when it comes to complying with international safety directives like ATEX, other European safety directives and/or local regulations.
GEA Niro offers:
- Plants with highly effective filters and scrubbers to ensure exhaust of clean process air
- Semi closed plants utilising low oxygen combustion gas as process air to prevent explosions
- Semi closed plants, self-inertised and featuring incineration of exhaust air
- Closed cycle plants utilising nitrogen as process gas circuits
- Pressure shock resistant plants designed with either suppression or pressure relief to protect the equipment and personnel
Cleaning-in-place (CIP) systems, semi- or fully automatic, are available for all GEA Niro plants. Efficient cleaning allows for more uptime and makes colour interchangeability easy and efficient.
Examples of drying solutions for dyestuff and pigment
A wide range of dyestuff and pigments are dried using technology from GEA Niro. The right solution depends on the feedstock and the powder properties in demand.
For disperse and reactive dyes for the textile industry, GEA Niro’s spray dryer types, NOZZLE TOWER™ and Fluidized Spray Dryer, FSD™, are ideal as they provide a dust free powder with superior flow ability and solubility. This helps improve the performance of the dyes and of the dye production. The GEA Niro IFD-GRANULATOR™ can be applied to produce very large dye particles (>500 my) without altering the basic powder properties.
For drying of titanium dioxide (TiO2) and kaolin, GEA Niro spray dryers with rotary atomizers and the SWIRL FLUIDIZER™ are the ideal choice. Both provide a fine powder; the spray dryer is recommended for grades based on slurries, whereas the SWIRL FLUIDIZER™ is the most efficient for grades that are based on a filter cake.
Examples of other dyes and pigments dried on technology from GEA Niro:
